Applications open for 144 CHI grants

The 144 Corridor Housing Initiative (CHI) is now accepting applications for exterior home improvement grants for homeowners in the four communities that comprise the 144 Corridor—Paton, Dana, Grand Junction and Rippey.

Applications are available at Rolling Hills Bank in Rippey, Community State Bank in Paton and Peoples Bank in Grand Junction. Applications are also available at the libraries in Paton, Rippey and Grand Junction, in addition to Grand Junction city hall and Grand Junction municipal utilities.

The grants are being made available for homeowners to improve the attractiveness of their home’s exteriors. Eligible projects include structural improvements such as porches, front decks, windows, doors and steps, in addition to exterior improvements such as painting and siding. Special consideration will be given to applicants who plan to install or update sidewalks and to those who use local suppliers and contractors for their projects.

Grant funds will cover up to 50 percent of a project’s total cost with a maximum grant of $1,000.

The deadline for grant applications for improvement projects to be submitted is May 15, 2026. When an application is approved, the homeowner must then complete the project by Nov. 30, 2026. If the completed project fulfills the requirements stipulated in the approved grant application, funds will then be provided to the homeowner. The request for payment to 144 CHI must be made by Dec. 15, 2026.
